First thing – check out the Illinois Housing Development Aurthority’s website:

They can tell you about seminars and programs you can attend to help your credit, local interest rates and if there are any programs to get downpayment or closing costs assistance.

Then I would talk to a bunch of Mortgage companies in your local area. They would have a great idea as to the local market.

Once you have established what programs are offered and you want to purchase a home, make sure you are pre-approved for a mortgage before you talk to a Real Estate Agent.

    Good Luck!

In addition to the IDHA, you can also contact The Illinois Finance Authority to see what first time home buyer programs are offered.

There are also special programs for residents of DuPage County. Check out the sites to learn more.

    Good luck!
